German startups raised just under €8.4 billion in venture capital in 2025, 19% more than in 2024, across 716 funding rounds (755 the year before). Bavaria led on volume with €3.3 billion; Berlin led on the number of deals, with 218.

Much early-stage support runs through universities and research institutes. The federal EXIST Business Start-up Grant is applied for through one of them and pays founders €2,500 a month (€3,000 with a doctorate) for up to a year, plus up to €30,000 in material costs for a team and up to €5,000 for coaching.
